Whenever i am approached as a leader and asked by someone what they should do. I ask them ‘what do you think you should do?’. They stop and think and come up with a solution that is much better than anything i could have suggested. So i say, ‘do that then.’ They do it and it goes perfectly well. This is a style of leadership that i developed when directing amateur plays. ‘How should i play this scene?’ ….’how do you think?You’ve read the scene?’ ‘. Pause…solution…’Do that then.’ If they come up with an inappropriate solution or they genuinely don’t know. I will come up with something. But i am certain that this is the second best option. People who work with me are encouraged to be leaders and to become leaders. When department heads take their responsibilities.
